Classes & Lessons

NMCS offers a special opportunity for students to have two lessons a week. Sports events often meet several times a week, yet music students often see their teachers only once a week. Students will excel at a greater rate and enjoy their progress even more during the course of a year. In the european tradition, Jennifer and William also encourage students to quietly sit into each other’s lessons to learn from each other and to become more familiar with repertoire that they will eventually study themselves.

NMCS also offers group lessons and masterclasses for all students. Group lessons are an important opportunity for students to interact with their peers, parents and teachers. Group lessons will include everything from solo playing, to chamber music and orchestral training sessions depending on the needs of the students. Chamber music in particular encourages students to learn how to work together in a non-judgmental learning environment, and also encourages positive communication and leadership skills.

Jennifer and William believe that a healthful, supportive approach to learning is essential for all violinists/violists/cellists at any age. Jennifer is versed in the basics of the Pilates/Ron Fletcher method and incorporate this work into her teaching to help students understand the importance of good postural habits from an early age. William has studied the benefits of Yoga and also has researched extensively the best possible postural habits for string players.
